Fashion designer Christian Wijnants and Ashtari Carpets have joined forces to create two exceptional hand-knotted carpets crafted from a blend of wool and silk. These one-of-a-kind rugs showcase an abstract exotic floral print taken from Wijnants' summer collection, adding a distinctive decorative element.
The collection comprises two distinct versions: "White Leaves" and "Blue Leaves." Both of these monumental pieces boast dimensions of 275 x 205 cm and are available for viewing in our showroom. Each rug encapsulates the artistic collaboration between Christian Wijnants and Ashtari Carpets, offering a unique fusion of fashion design and traditional craftsmanship.
ASHTARI: "We feel incredibly honored to collaborate with CW and his team on this exceptional collection. Personally, our fascination with textile art has always been a profound wellspring of inspiration for our contemporary carpet collections. Now, that inspiration has taken a tangible form through the creative genius of Christian Wijnants. We express our gratitude for his recognition of our craft.
Upon the presentation of Christian's designs, we immediately recognized their alignment with our expectations. The designs are abstract, original, and unconventional. At first glance, they present an elegant and colorful array of abstract shapes against a neutral backdrop, yet they harbor a complex palette of color blends that come together in a gracefully harmonious whole."
CHRISTIAN WIJNANTS: "I have perpetually been captivated by the authenticity of crafts and the meticulous manual labor involved in textile arts. During my initial visit to the Ashtari showroom in Antwerp, I was instantly drawn to the artistry, craftsmanship, and the weaving techniques employed in carpet making. The exquisite amalgamation of colors, materials, and tradition serves as a tremendous well of inspiration for me. The prospect of collaborating with Ashtari and creating my own special rug seemed like a fantastic project.
The inspiration for these rugs originated from a self-designed textile print featured in my summer '15 collection. Starting with paper collages, I transformed them into abstract exotic flowers that now serve as the foundation for this unique collaboration."
